Why Jesse Why?

Look, I understand that ambition can drive us to do some strange things, but there are limits. Clearly, in his desire to become the next U.S. Senator from Illinois, Jesse Jackson, Jr. just couldn't keep that desire in sufficient check. Now he is wrapped up in the madness that is soap opera of Illinois governor Rod Blagojevich.

Infreakincredible! Ta-Nehisi Coates captured my thoughts on this here (and the link includes comments from his reader). If this all turns out to be true, then the brotha deserves what's coming to him. And it won't be a seat on the other side of the Capitol Building.

And naturally, Sean Hannity would do his best to look for links to BHO in this scandal. Yet, it does quite work. I'm sure the viewers of Fox News are gutted.

Hold on to your hat, dude.

Other reports show that there are conflicting pieces of evidence here.

For instance, apparently the governor said several times that #5 was someone Obama opposed. That wouldn't make any sense with Jackson, Jr.

On the other hand, there's Emil Jones, Jr. Some reports are suggesting that he might be a more likely candidate for #5. Also, there are links to him (such as: the governor said he had leaked #5's name and a few days later Jones, Jr.'s name appeared in the paper).

So don't rush so much. It's only Day 2 of Illinois Freakout. If it's Jackson, Jr., we'll know that for sure soon enough. If not...I'll be glad of it.

I hear you. But I am still bothered by the fact that he is even in the mix of all of this. He should be much more astute than that. He is an Illinois politician, and even I'd heard of the machinations of Blagojevich. I haven't kicked him to the curb yet. But I have to say that he'd better be doing all within his power to get out of this hot seat. Otherwise, his political career will be stunted, and I am confident that he sees himself as a potential VPOTUS (and eventually POTUS).

I agree.

As I read the situation, he's been very forthcoming with the FBI, and is giving them full cooperation. That's really all you can ask for.

It's dirty in Chicago, no doubt, but if that's where Jackson is, and that's where the senate seat in question is...I guess he's got to swim in those waters.

And another of the #'s is Obama's advisor Jarret, but she's not tainted by this at all (she's the one where the governor was so pissed that Obama would only offer "appreciation").

So it's *possible* that one outcome will be to demonstrate who's cleaner than you think because we'll learn that they told Governor Filthy to stick it.

But I'm an optimist. I will certainly join you in your profound disappointment if Jackson turns out to be implicated. I liked what he had to say about his support for Obama during the campaign.

I can’t say I would be surprised it Jesse Jr. was involved in this. I recall reading that little Jesse got his Congressional seat when Jesse senior threatened to run against Clinton in 1996 (costing Clinton time and energy) unless Clinton used his influence to clear the way for his son. Clinton cleared the way and Jr. got his seat. Likewise, I remember reading that Jesse senior threatened to call for a boycott of Anheiser Busch unless one of his children got a lucrative beer distributorship. There ceased to be anything sincere about this family a long time ago, if there ever was.
