Your Lack of Familiarity with Common Sense is Showing

I've needed a good laugh lately, and Jon Stewart gave me a good one last night.  For some reason, known only to media conservatives and Fox News, it was decided that the rapper and poet Common should be declared an enemy of the state...well, for political purposes anyway.  For those who are familiar with Common's music, the "revelation" that he is a "thug" was met with open laughter, and it proved beyond a shadow of a doubt that media conservatives are fucking clueless about hip hop and its purveyors.  At this point, I turn it over to Jon Stewart.  Enjoy!

If you want to see something really scary, check out the reader comments on any conservative "news" site about this "story." If I didn't know any better, I'd suspect that they think that all black people are "thugs."

Thank you for that clip.

Have never seen Karl Rove as laugh-out-loud hilarious, until now!

First Lady Obama is showing how wide the doors to the White House can truly open. Perhaps the folks at Fox fear the sound of rust coming off of the hinges?

I'm just sayin'...

WP: "Critics were swift to pinpoint lyrics that support such controversial figures as Assata Shakur, a Black Liberation Army leader who was convicted in 1977 of killing a New Jersey state trooper."

He supports killing police. Period. I'm glad you guys like him so much. When young people commit crimes under his influence I hope they go to jail forever. The fact that Michelle invited him confirms the view that she has of this country. Maybe she's proud of Common but not the USA?

@Anon2: I suppose we can say the same about Ted Nugent and his support of shooting then candidates Obama and Clinton. The problem with your point is that there really can be two sides to a story. I consider Nat Turner and John Brown heroes, and I know that several white Southerners don't. So if you want to take the leap that I am against American slavery and the Confederacy, like you make the leap about Michelle Obama hating the nation, then go right ahead. It still won't work.

P.S. I would not be crying if Bull Connor had been killed while spraying down those children in Birmingham. Yes, murder is reprehensible, but I sure that many would have been fine with his death at that point, and many would have been horrified.

@Anon2: And it is just funny that Barack Obama is deemed not an American, even though his mother was from Kansas, and he is distantly related to Dick Cheney for God's sake, and Michelle Obama is Angela Davis re-imagined. It's a pitiful and weak attempt at condemning two people who repeatedly express their appreication and love for this country, in spite of its faults.

Interesting how they'll talk out of both sides of their mouth trying to contradict anything Obama says or does. One minute they praise Common for being a positive influence and the next they're labeling him as 'thug' just to try to make Obama look bad. It's pathetic.

Common celebrates killing police officers. You either agree with that or you don't. I don't. It seems that others do...the Obamas seem to have either a blind spot or a soft spot for left wing violence. First, their association with the weather underground, and now this.
